The arrival of winter and the resulting days and nights of storms and cold temperatures can be uncomfortable for some, or cozy for others. It all depends on how much clothing you wear outside and, most importantly, the temperature inside your home. Winter can be a very unpleasant season if you spend your time at home shivering, or very cozy and comfortable if you keep the inside of your home at a comfortable temperature. It is clear that many Portuguese homes were not properly built to ensure good energy efficiency, so it is sometimes difficult to find the best heating system for your home. Therefore, be careful, as cheap can sometimes be expensive. However, here are some tips on heating systems that you can find on the market and that do not require such a high investment.
Wood-burning stove
Let's start with the well-known wood-burning stove or heat recovery stove. These can be installed in an existing fireplace or simply placed in any corner of your living room as a stand-alone unit. There is a big difference in heat output compared to a conventional fireplace. In addition, wood consumption is significantly reduced to less than half.
Pellet Stoves
First and foremost, it is important to note that when purchasing a pellet stove, you should always take into account the size of the space you want to heat in order to choose the system with the most appropriate power for the areas in question. None of them require major installation work, making them a great option to buy on the market today.
Central water heating recuperators
Prices start to increase, but so does the quality and power of the equipment. Central water heating recuperators can complement other home water heating systems, such as solar panels and oil-fired boilers. The investment in this system may be higher than in the previous ones, but the energy savings allow you to pay for them in a short period of time. They are ideal for those who are building a house from scratch, as they can be included in the initial project.
Air conditioning
Air conditioning is a very old heating system that you are certainly familiar with. It is easily judged for consuming a lot of energy and being very harmful to the environment. However, with recent developments, there are now much more environmentally friendly versions on the market that also consume less energy. One of the advantages of these systems is that they can be used to heat in winter and cool in summer.
Oil radiators
We now turn to the most economical and practical solutions on the market. These are tailored to those who do not have much money to invest and want a quick and immediate solution, meaning they can buy and install it on the same day. They are known as portable heaters that can be easily moved from one space to another. The oil-filled radiator works according to a logic of electrical resistors that heat the oil and conduct the heat. It may lose out initially because it is a little slow to reach the desired temperature, but it wins because it is very quiet. You can use it during your quiet evening on the sofa in the living room.
Fan heaters
Fan heaters win the competition for the cheapest equipment on the market, but they are not a good example if you want a solution that heats a large space for a long period of time. Still, they are good solutions for certain occasions, as the device is small, practical, and lightweight, although a little noisy. They are ideal, for example, for heating your bathroom just before you take a shower.
What do you think of these solutions? Will you adopt any of them for this winter?
