It all comes down to details, materials, patterns, and textures. And small changes make all the difference.
You don't have to spend a fortune to have a luxury home. It all comes down to details, materials, patterns, and textures, according to experts. By following a few professional tricks and using good taste, it is possible to have the home we have always dreamed of living in—but in this case, with our eyes wide open. In today's gallery, we show you that it is possible to have elegant and welcoming spaces, even on a tighter budget.
Interior designers Eva Maraver and Laura Granado spoke to AD España magazine, offering some tips that can “work miracles” in any type of home. Here we summarize the decorating tricks of those in the know.
Luxury is (really) about organizing space.
Interior design experts believe that luxury is really about space, and that everything revolves around its distribution. As a rule, whenever there are several very small rooms, experts recommend (if possible) eliminating one and transforming it into a larger room. Another option that allows you to “gain volume” is to use high ceilings.
The walls
To create a special atmosphere, experts recommend choosing a palette of light and medium tones, which then require “playing” with textures and some elements that provide sophistication. If there is no budget for this, they advise using sophisticated wallpaper or screen printing.
You should also avoid “supermarket” paintings, screens, and illustrations, as the decor will be artificial and “tasteless.” A good solution, they say, would be to compose something with photos and illustrations of each person's favorite themes and frame them.
Another idea from the decorators: use illustrators who have affordable pieces.
Light and shadow
“The creation of highly contrasting shadows and lighting effects results in very sophisticated lighting,” says Maraver. To enhance this effect, experts recommend looking for a ceiling lamp or opting for a simple and inexpensive lamp base, but with a personalized lampshade.
A touch of wood
As for furniture, according to the decorators, the ideal is to choose pieces with natural finishes and mix them with lacquered accent pieces. In this case, make sure they are high quality and in elegant colors.
Second-hand furniture can also be an option. For example, we can use an old wooden base and place a marble or stone top on it, or even recover a glass top and place a brass or bronze base on it.
Yes to antiques
“When the budget is so low that we can't change all the furniture, we can find small pieces to achieve the effect we are looking for,” says Maraver. In such cases, he advises choosing ceramic pieces or investing in the work of emerging artists.
Cozy bookshelves
“Cover all the walls of a dining room with floor-to-ceiling shelves, which can even be from Ikea, say the decorators. The professional touch can be achieved by varnishing them ”with a sophisticated color."
Fabrics, the perfect allies
Go for natural linen or silk, with bronze or metal rods.
