New musical offerings, logistical innovations, and experiences dedicated to the audience are the focus of the RFM Somnii electronic music festival, scheduled for July 4, 5, and 6, in Figueira da Foz, the organization announced today.

With headliners Alok, Steve Aoki, and Timmy Trumpet, the festival has the “strongest lineup ever presented in Portugal,” said Tiago Castelo Branco, executive director of promoter MOT - Memories Of Tomorrow, at a press conference today.

Another highlight of the organization, on the second day, July 5, is the Dutch project “This Is Sefa,” revealed today, which combines electronic music with classical music and rock. The festival challenges local singers and musicians to join the show.

The 12th edition of Somnii, the 11th in Figueira da Foz, innovates in the concept of the stage, aiming to “celebrate the sunset,” since the 55-meter-wide infrastructure will be located on the north pier of the commercial port, facing north towards the beach and the sea, a location that is debuting this year, announced MOT.

The festival venue, which aims to establish itself as “an event of experiences for a diverse audience,” maintains the area but includes a greater range of services, with new infrastructure and better accessibility for people with reduced mobility.

Councilman Manuel Domingues announced that Air Force Day will take place in the city at the same time as the festival, fitting in with the Somnii program.
The municipality's investment in the electronic music event amounts to €105,000, plus logistical support, with Turismo Centro de Portugal (TCP) maintaining its support of €50,000.

Anabela Freitas, acting president of TCP, highlighted the importance of the festival in line with the strategy of affirming Central Portugal on the national tourism scene. As for electronic music in particular, the acting president of TCP acknowledged that it is a subject that is “Chinese” to her, she joked.

Somnii will be the only festival of its kind in Portugal this year, due to the suspension of Beach Party (Matosinhos) and Sudoeste, on the Alentejo coast. The promoter made no secret that this could be positive for the growth of the event, “bringing together the ingredients for further growth.”

“It's not good for the industry, but I won't hide the fact that without direct competition there could be a direct benefit,” added Tiago Castelo Branco.

One of the biggest national DJs, celebrating 31 years of career, Pete Tha Zouk, returns to Figueira da Foz and Somnii, where he performed in 2014, for a show whose lineup is decided on the spot according to the audience's demands, he revealed.

On the other hand, when asked about the age difference of the audience he will face at the festival, he explained to Lusa that his main concern “is, above all, to play music that people like.”
