They are subject to continuous movement, dirt, impacts and spills of all kinds. For this reason, flooring is the element that suffers most in the home. And, of course, it also thrives on fashions and trends. New materials (and some not so new), but with a touch of modernity, allow us to renovate our floors with minimal investment and often without any work.
Habitíssimo has put together a collection of examples of flooring that can help you give your home a new look for much less than you think. Here are a few examples.
Vinyl flooring
In the form of tiles, self-adhesive or with a ‘click’ system, vinyl flooring is one of the best solutions if you want to change the image of your home without spending a lot. As well as being cheap, they are resistant and can withstand impact and humidity without any problems. You can find them in a multitude of finishes, even almost perfectly imitating other materials such as hydraulic tiles, stone or wood. Another advantage is that they lay easily on the old floor and are so thin that, fortunately, you won't have any problems with the doors.
Linoleum flooring
Until recently, we only saw it in schools and health centers, stores or industries, but now it's also beginning to make a mark in home decoration due to its great qualities. Although it can be confused, linoleum flooring has nothing to do with vinyl. It is made from linseed oil and materials such as ground stone or wood flour. It is therefore a material of natural origin and biodegradable, which is already a point in its favor.
What other advantages does it have? It is very resistant, waterproof and, of course, cheap. What's more, it requires almost no maintenance - it's a good insulator and is environmentally friendly. In terms of finishes, it is more limited than vinyl flooring.
Laminate flooring
This type of flooring is also very attractive, apart from its price. It's perfect if you want to enjoy the warmth of wood without the maintenance and care it requires. It's also a good alternative for improving home insulation.
More advantages: in addition to imitation wood, laminates are available in many other finishes; they are hypoallergenic and antibacterial and can be installed directly on the old floor. Of course, it's always best to opt for a quality floor. In this sense, it is advisable to look at both the thickness and the use for which each model is recommended.
Cork flooring
Cork is an increasingly popular material for flooring and wall coverings. Floors made with this material resist humidity, repel mold and fungus, are anti-allergenic and recover their original state when strong pressure is exerted on them.
On the other hand, there are more and more attractive models and finishes, so it's very easy to adapt these floors to any style you want to give your home. And all this without forgetting that it is a material with a very low environmental impact.
These are four low-cost floors with which you can give your home a new look without spending too much, not only because of their price, but also because you can lay them over the old floor without too much trouble. There are no excuses for delaying the renovation of that important part of the house.
