Portugal on everyone´s lips.

The Azores were chosen as the ninth best destination to visit this year by the American newspaper The New York Times. On the list of 52 places chosen by the publication—one for each week of 2019—the archipelago appears ahead of destinations such as Los Angeles (USA), the Italian Riviera, Zadar (Croatia), and Costalegre (Mexico).

“A mythical green exuberance, giant volcanic craters transformed into lagoons, natural hot springs that emerge from the earth, thousands of blue hydrangeas, and the only coffee growers in Europe” is how the Portuguese destination is described by the publication, which ranks it among the Top 10 must-visit places in 2019. First place goes to Puerto Rico, followed by Hampi, India, and Santa Barbara, California (USA).

Among the 52 destinations, only one other has Portuguese as its official language, namely Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, which appears in 14th place.
