Pedro Santana Lopes announced yesterday, at the Social Security Day commemorative ceremony held at the Arts and Entertainment Center and attended by all government officials from the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, that the contract for the construction of the Figueira da Foz training center of the Institute for Employment and Professional Training (IEFP) has already been awarded. The center will be located in the former “Sítio das Artes,” under a 50-year lease agreement signed with the municipality in February 2020.
The information was provided by the Secretary of State for Labor, Adriano Rafael Moreira, who visited the building in the morning, together with the vice-president of the City Council, Anabela Tabaçó, and local and regional representatives of the IEFP.
The project, which the mayor said would begin soon, is worth more than €3.5 million, is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and will allow, according to the IEFP, “the installation of training centers in areas crucial for people and companies, with the necessary conditions in terms of facilities, equipment, human resources, and, very importantly, training planning and management".

The municipality of Figueira da Foz is part of the Figueira Foz Employment Center, which also covers the municipalities of Soure, Mira, and Montemor-o-Velho, a territory which, according to the IEFP, in statements made to the LUSA agency in April, has “high dynamism and entrepreneurial capacity in sectors as diverse as metalworking, agri-food, civil construction, tourism, and energy,” making it “necessary to develop responses that allow us to attract people and generate confidence and satisfaction among employers.”
