As in previous years, the representatives of the foreign groups taking part in FestiMaiorca - Mallorca´s International Folklore Festival - as well as the host group, the Casa do Povo de Mallorca Folkloric Group, were received in the Great Hall of the Town Hall. The reception took place last Thursday, July 17, at 18:00.

This year, in addition to the national groups, six groups from two continents are taking part in the festival: Ballet Argentino Caldén Gaucho (Argentina); Folklore Ensemble “Sedenchitsa” (Bulgaria); Agrupación Folklórica Kiribumba de Soacha (Colombia); Baranya Choir of Dancers (Hungary); Ensamble Folklórico Mexicano (Mexico) and the group Agrupación de Música y Danzas ‘Tradiciones de Venezuela’ (Venezuela), which will arrive in Mallorca next Sunday.

The reception included the usual moments of welcome, the exchange of souvenirs and brief speeches by the entities involved in the event, in which they stressed the importance of FestiMaiorca as “a very important symbol of the culture” of the municipality and “its hospitality”.



Luis Gonçalves, from the board of Casa do Povo de Maiorca, gave a special thanks to Bela Matos, Director of the Figueira da Foz Urban Area School Group, for making the facilities of EB2/3 Dr. João de Barros available to host the groups.

FestiMaiorca began yesterday with its first gala in Praça Dr. Fernando Traqueia, and is scheduled to end on July 24 with a gala in the Municipal Garden.

The program also includes the Opening Gala in Terreiro do Paço (July 19), various galas in the Municipal Garden, an afternoon dedicated to the senior community, as well as nightly street entertainment in Buarcos and at the Picadeiro, in the Bairro Novo area.
