The new headquarters of the Maiorca Parish Council was inaugurated at the end of the morning on April 27, an investment worth 239,916.75 euros plus VAT, built “right next to the Viscounts of Maiorca Palace, right in the heart of our town's historic center”, inserted “in one of the most stunning buildings in this municipality”, and integrating “the maximum of each one of us, Majorcans, in the exterior and interior of the building”, paying homage to musicality, folklore and rice, “integral and fundamental parts of our land”, as the president of the Junta, Rui Ferreira, said in his speech.
Rui Ferreira stressed that with the new parish council, a “unique space”, “more services are being created, there is more proximity, more accessibility, more social responsibility for our parish and ”a new cycle of renovation, maintenance and dissemination of Mallorca's historical heritage is beginning."
“Today we are showing the outside world that consensus and political synergy can, should and must exist,” stressed the mayor of Mallorca, who took the opportunity to thank the town's mayor, Pedro Santana Lopes, “for his own will to reformulate, enhance and requalify Mallorca, bringing new life to what exists.”
Pedro Santana Lopes, meanwhile, referred to the various vicissitudes that Mallorca's built heritage has been through, the works and decisions that still need to be made, making a point of making it clear “that the obligation of the municipality, of those in public office, is to look for the best possible solutions, saving the public purse as much as possible and not wasting time, which is something that also has a lot of value.”
The mayor stressed that those in public office should not “waste the communities' time (...) and do everything they can to make sure they have the best life possible”, something he believes Rui Ferreira has managed to do, despite the fact that “I didn't look kindly on my arrival in these positions” and that “there are more important things than ourselves”, he stressed.
For Pedro Santana Lopes, “the parish council being here is very important so that what has happened for years doesn't happen in the future, regardless of the will of each and every one of us”.
Pedro Santana Lopes made a point of leaving a word of appreciation to deputy José Ligeiro, “my Majorcan walking partner and my great, great friend, regardless of the phases that each one has in their political life and in their party life and in their life at the service of the community”, as well as to deputy José Cunha Carvão, “an enthusiast of all these spaces”, and to architect Rui Silva, author of the design for the new headquarters.
Right at the end of his speech, the mayor asked everyone to take good care of all this in twenty or so years' time. It's our duty not to let things get damaged“ and ”we all have to be vigilant about preserving our heritage", he concluded.
The council's new headquarters will provide CTT services, soon the Citizen's Bureau, which will allow access to “a wide range of fundamental services”, which will provide “and, for the immediate future, the extension of opening hours to 8 hours”.
The ceremony was also attended by all the executive's councillors; the Member of Parliament, Ana Oliveira; various municipal leaders and technicians; mayors and former mayors of the municipality; civil and military entities attended the ceremony, which also brought together various banners from the parish's collectivities.
