António Costa's government will assess the evolution of the current situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic step by step, but does not intend to relax tax payments for families, at least for now – and in these particular cases. If they experience difficulties, families will be able to resort to the payment plans already provided for in law.

The first IMI collection notices – the dates are also to be maintained, as confirmed by Negócios – will begin to arrive in May and, according to the new rules in force since last year, families can pay the amount in several installments, provided that the amount exceeds €100. Thus, if the tax to be paid is more than €100 and less than or equal to €500, it can be paid in two installments, and for amounts over €500, in three installments.
The same scenario applies to IRS. The campaign started on April 1 and ends on June 30.

According to the tax calendar set by the Tax Authority (AT), refunds should reach taxpayers' accounts by July 31, and the respective payment must be made by August 31. In the latter case, which assumes voluntary payment, taxpayers can submit a request to pay in installments.
