The great names that made the beauty and value of 20th and 21st century painting famous are, through their canvases, in Figueira da Foz.
The Sotto Maior Palace has opened its Multicenter space to welcome lines and shapes, shades and inspirations, and does so with a parade of famous names in painting.
Visitors can appreciate the timeless and renowned strokes of Spanish artists Joan Miró (1893-1983) and Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), which are lined up in a parade of many paintings. Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso (1887-1918), from Amarante, belonging to the first generation of Portuguese modernist painters, stands out for the exceptional quality of his work and for the dialogue he was able to establish with the historical avant-garde of the early 20th century.
This gathering of “Great Masters at the Palace” also features works by Paula Rego (1935-2022) and Maria Helena Vieira da Silva (1908-1992), Salvador Dalí (1904-1989), among others.
Curator Tiago Feijóo takes a chance on Figueira. The exhibition shows marked shades of certain and uncertain lines, in various dimensions. “It's a bet on Figueira,” says Edgar Souto, another of the main organizers of this art show, which aims to be an initiative with an impact that “educates those who appreciate art, including young people.”
José Miguel Amorim Coelho reinforces the desire to revitalize the property. The support of MCoutinho, Águas da Figueira, Casino Figueira, and Real Companhia Velha shows a willingness to participate in this cycle that we have named ‘Art. Time. Palace.’“ The administrator of Amorim Turismo classifies this achievement as ”an ambitious idea, which begins with a solid foundation. We know that the future cannot be controlled, but we are already studying the possibility of a second chapter later this year. There is willingness, there are ideas, and there is enormous shared motivation."
The exhibition is open to the public.
