The project is expected to last about a year, followed by 24 months to complete the work. Part of the area will be used for green spaces and the rest for urbanization and infrastructure.

The extension of Parque das Abadias, in Figueira da Foz, Coimbra district, should be completed by the middle of the next term, the mayor said on Tuesday.

“All the conditions are in place and we intend to move forward. It is a landmark project for everyone and I am very proud that it is being carried out,” Pedro Santana Lopes told reporters on Tuesday, highlighting the participation of private owners and the performance of the services involved in the process.

This afternoon, the municipality approved the draft contract for the promotion and urbanization of the Parque das Abadias extension, continuing the process that began in 2023.

The conditions are now in place for the project to be carried out, which is expected to take about a year, followed by 24 months to complete the work, which covers an area of 11 hectares.

According to the municipality's technical services, about 5.5 hectares will be allocated to green spaces and the rest to urbanization areas and mobility infrastructure.

In this intervention, the Figueira da Foz City Council will save €900,000 with the acquisition of the land, which will be supported by private investors responsible for future urban developments.

“I think it is very important for the city to extend this park, which is so important to the city's identity and which, in a way, has been an environmentalist landmark since decades before April 25, 1974,” Santana Lopes emphasized.
