The Municipality of Figueira da Foz will begin today, May 7, to charge for river transport between the two banks of the Mondego River – Figueira/Cabedelo, on the electric boat “Carlos Simão.”
The fares, which are affordable for all citizens, as well as the exemptions from payment, were set and approved at the City Council meeting on June 21, 2024, and take into account the investment made by the Municipality in the acquisition of the vessel and the maintenance and operating costs related to its proper functioning and consequent provision of service.
Thus, the following are exempt from paying for the crossing, but are subject to presentation of a pass: students up to 23 years of age; people over 65 years of age; people who can prove both residence and employment on the opposite bank from their residence. Children under 6 years of age, when accompanied by at least one adult, are exempt and do not need to present a pass.
Non-exempt users can purchase a single ticket (€1.00, VAT included; €1.50, including VAT - round trip) on the boat before the start of the trip and pay in cash or by debit card, or purchase a monthly pass (€5.00, including VAT) or annual pass (€30.00, including VAT).
To obtain monthly, annual, and free passes, you must fill out the form/application available on the municipality's website under “Serviços on-line Figueira da Foz” (Figueira da Foz Online Services) and send the application to the email address: taxas. licencas@cm-figfoz.pt or in person at the Municipal One-Stop Shop - Urban Planning Building - Rua Fernandes Tomás, nº 196, on weekdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
