More than a thousand revelers parade alongside King Vanessa Alfaro and Queen Pedro Barroso in FIGUEIRA DA FOZ!
Blogger Vanessa Alfaro (author of the blog “Shape Your Body by Vanessa”) and actor Pedro Barroso (with references to the world of fashion and advertising) are the kings of the Buarcos Figueira da Foz Carnival. This year's parades take place at the sambadrome with the theme “Carnival 40Tão, the greatest reveler,” in honor of the 40th anniversary of one of the most popular carnivals in the central region.
At the presentation held this afternoon (without the presence of the kings, due to professional commitments) at the Arts and Entertainment Center, Liliana Pimentel announced the general program and the new features of the event, which has an estimated budget of 120,000 euros, of which 60,000 are supported by the local authority.
According to the president of the Buarcos Figueira da Foz Carnival Association, the two parades (Sunday and Tuesday) are expected to attract around 1,200 revelers, with support from around 30 entities and a staff of around 100 people.
As for new features, this year the public will have the right to vote. On the back of the entrance tickets, they will be able to choose the group and schools that stand out the most.
On the other hand, the jury will now include representatives of the municipality's active forces, in addition to members of samba schools from other parts of the country.
Solidarity and eco-friendly Carnival
With the support of Águas da Figueira, the parade dedicated to children has two purposes. On the one hand, it will collect food items that will be donated to social welfare institutions in the municipality.
On the other hand, there is the ecological aspect, with Águas da Figueira distributing reusable bottles to children in order to reduce the negative impact of plastic bottle use. Water supply stations will also be installed along the avenue.
The Children's Carnival (March 1, at 10:00 a.m. on Avenida do Brasil) currently has around 1,200 preschool and elementary school children registered.
Vintage cars in parade
This year, the parades have the support and presence of several entities. Among them is the Figueira da Foz Vintage Car Club. Around 20 “old machines” will be driven by “crew members” dressed in period costumes.
Tribute to associations
At this presentation, which was attended by João Ataíde (mayor of Figueira da Foz), José Esteves (president of the Buarcos and S. Julião Parish Council), and João Damasceno (general director of Águas da Figueira), another new feature was announced.
In its 40th year, Carnival invites the Association of Collectivities of the Municipality of Figueira da Foz and some of its members to the Avenue to demonstrate the vitality of the local associative movement.
