The construction of the new bridge over the Mondego River – part of Eurovelo 1 – Atlantic Coast Route – continues to advance at a good pace and within the planned schedule, establishing itself as one of the most important works for the future of mobility and development in Figueira da Foz.
The future connection between Vila Verde and Alqueidão will strengthen the proximity between the parishes, improve access and create a more modern, safe crossing prepared to meet the current needs of the population.
According to the mayor of Figueira da Foz, Pedro Santana Lopes, the works are currently being carried out on both banks of the Mondego River, keeping the project within the planned deadlines.
The work has already reached approximately 51% financial execution, corresponding to an investment of more than R$ 3.6 million, in a project financed by the Environmental Fund.
The mayor also highlighted the strategic importance of this infrastructure for the municipality:

“The Eurovelo Bridge will be a modern and multifunctional infrastructure, prepared for cyclists, pedestrians and conditioned car traffic, representing an important step in valuing sustainable mobility and connecting the two banks of the river.”

In addition to the mobility component, this new bridge could also represent an important boost to the development of the surrounding areas, bringing territories closer together and creating new opportunities for housing, investment and local development.
Integrated into Eurovelo 1 – one of the largest European cycling routes – this infrastructure also reinforces Figueira da Foz´s commitment to sustainable mobility, tourism and improving the quality of life of the population.

More than a public work, this bridge represents a connection to the future of the municipality, bringing communities closer together and strengthening the union between the two banks of the Mondego River.
