On Friday afternoon, August 1, the Municipality of Figueira da Foz and Clube Recreativo Instrução Alhadense (CRIA) signed a collaboration agreement for the construction of a community sports center and established the terms of financial support from the local government.
The moment was unanimously considered by Pedro Santana Lopes, mayor of the municipality, Alexandre Dias, president of the CRI Alhadense board, and Jorge Bugalho, president of the Alhadas parish council, as special for the entire Alhadense community.
Pedro Santana Lopes described the entire process leading up to the signing of the agreement, which included changes to the municipal master plan, project approval and licensing, and assessments by the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, as “an ordeal.” However, he noted that everything is now ready for review by the Court of Auditors.
The new multi-sports pavilion, with an estimated cost of one and a half million euros, which the municipality will seek to apply for European funds, is designed to meet all the conditions for sports practice, including stands for 378 spectators, parking lots, and green spaces.
It is expected to be completed in time for CRIA's centenary celebrations in 2027.
