Yesterday morning, July 23, the contract for the construction of the “Variante de Quiaios” project was signed. The project involves approximately 3.5 kilometers of main road and will be carried out by the company “Civibérica, S.A.,” represented at the ceremony by Paulo de Almeida.

The ceremony took place in Quiaios, near the eastern connection of the project, which has a completion deadline of 15 months and a value of €3,990,800.00 (three million nine hundred and ninety thousand eight hundred euros), plus VAT.

In addition to Pedro Santana Lopes, Mayor of Figueira da Foz, representing the contracting authority, the ceremony was attended by councilors Manuel Domingues, Ricardo Silva, and Olga Brás; the President of the Municipal Assembly, José Duarte Pereira; as well as the President of the Quiaios Parish Council, Ricardo Santos, and members of the public.

The presentation of the bypass project and the contextualization of all the administrative and legal procedures that had to be carried out throughout the process, during which problems of various kinds and complexity arose, was the responsibility of the Head of the Municipality´s Studies and Projects Division, João Martins, who noted that "it took a great deal of effort and, although it seems like a long time, we are talking about almost three years, it was a very complex task".

Both Santana Lopes and Ricardo Santos emphasized the extreme importance of the project for the parish of Quiaios, "a long-standing aspiration of the entire population, for over 30 years" that will solve the problems of connection between the village of Quiaios and the beach, which is currently done largely by crossing the internal roads of the village, namely Rua Direita and Rua Grupo Instrução e Recreio Quiaense, which are narrow.

Ricardo Santos reminded all the mayors of Quiaios that over the last 30 years they have “fought to make this project possible,” a project he considered to be “perhaps the most important project for the parish in the last 25 years.”
